Sue Reeve's Interview

Sue Reeve

I joined Textile 21 in 2004 after Elsa Buch had given a talk to the Parbold branch of the Embroiderers Guild. I had recently finished my C&G embroidery Part 2 and was looking for further development of my art.

I first became interested in embroidery after seeing a silk box depicting Monet's Garden, house and paintings made by Janet Grimes. ( Janet later became a member of Textile 21) This inspired me to take and A-level in art /embroidery followed by C&G part 1 and 2.

My work is inspired by the Sefton coastline. I love the textures, light, shadows, flora and fauna of the area. I like to dye my fabrics with natural dyes and then collage them using hand and free- machine embroidery. I also like to make felt which I use as a basis for 3D structures. Recently I have been rust-dying fabric on an old mooring pole, I found on a beach in South Devon.
